Wide Fisheye Macro
I have a Canon 1000D and am looking to buy my first lens.?
What can you suggest as something that will keep me going? Obviously I'd like the best quality possible but I'm not looking to spend much (£150-£250). I've seen ones such as the Tamron 75-300mm which does zoom and macro but also I'm wondering about wide angle lenses. I take a wide range of photos so would eventually need a dedicated lens for all types but considering this is my first what do you suggest I go for, model and macro, zoom or wide. (Not bothered about fisheye or prime lenses.)

Erm...woudn't it technically be your second lens...counting kit lens? If not then you would need a standard zoom to start with.
Would consider the 50-200 or 55-200 or similar lenses from Canon, Sigma and Tamron as well as the 70-300 and 75-300 as a telephoto. None of them are particularly good (alongside any of the 70-200s) but will suffice. Personal choice if mine is the Sigma 70-300mm APO, because of higher quality glass, which is available for around £170. With the leftover money you can spend that on the Canon EF50mm f1.8 which is an amazing lens for £70-90 and you're not going to find anything faster or sharper within £200 of the asking price. So there 2 lenses for you that total to £250, a reasonable telephoto and a good portrait prime.
The cheapest wide zoom would be the Sigma 10-20mm at around £350. And the Sigma 12-24 is £550, so they're out of your reach for now, but are really fun lenses to work with.
