Netbook Vs. Notebook: A List Of Pros And Cons

The battle of different laptop manufacturers will never be over. One company introduces a netbook and another does the same thing. Notebooks are also very popular choices for a lot of end users. Perhaps the netbook notebook rivalry is best seen if their differences are discussed.

What are netbooks and notebooks? Netbooks are described as mini-computers whose sizes range from 7 inches to 10 inches. The larger versions are notebooks with sizes ranging from 12 to 17 inches. Apparently with these size comparisons, you may say that portability in the netbook notebook arena goes to netbooks. But is this really the case at all times? Better take a look at the list of pros and cons of these gadgets.

Netbook Notebook Rivalry # 1 – Design Considerations

Netbooks were designed for several aspects of computing needs. You may use it to connect to the Internet and to communicate with other people. It may also be your means to learn and be informed. Sizes are contributory to their compactness too.

When it comes to battery life, most netbooks can stay longer than notebooks making the former less dependent on charging. However, you cannot deny the fact that notebooks are multipurpose in nature allowing you to accomplish more computing tasks.

Netbook Notebook Rivalry # 2 – More on Mobility

You should not question the mobility of a notebook because like your portable netbook options, this laptop version is also considered portable. Add to that the fact that ultra-slims or ultra-thins are already making raves for 17-inchers. This makes notebooks also a very mobile option for consumers. They may run through the aid of mobile phones when connecting to the internet but more users consider it better to invest on wireless external modems.

Most computer companies tie up with cellular networks when selling netbooks. This is in order to attract more consumers to buy the product knowing that an Internet bundle goes with it. If you opt for this, you are given the chance to stop making use of the Internet bundle from the cellular company and pay for what you have consumed only.

Netbook Notebook Rivalry # 3 – Application Concerns

Running applications is also a concern for netbook and notebook consumers. Surfing the web while you are on the go is possible with netbooks. The same is through is you want to run basic applications.

But if you have other things to do and you need to open four to five applications all at the same time, notebooks are sure winners. Additionally, the larger laptop allows you to edit high definition video files.

Netbook Notebook Rivalry # 4 – Cost

Who will ever forget the cost attached to the purchase? Of course, scrutinizing such factor is always necessary. Netbooks apparently tend to be cheaper than their larger notebook counterparts. However, there are some tasks that netbooks cannot fulfill thus more computer enthusiasts question the real price attached to the product.

When deciding between who wins on the netbook notebook rivalry, you have to consider your own concerns as a buyer. Maybe, you would rather think of investing on netbooks for your children. If you deal with some transactions using computers, notebooks are more convenient alternatives for you. The cost of these two items may differ but you cannot deny the fact that you can do more things with the help of notebooks. When mobility is an issue, you will never have a problem with both.

Would the new heavily rumored apple "sub-notebook" replace the existing macbook?

I have been waiting since June to buy a macbook, constantly hoping that apple will unveil a new macbook soon. I thought they would release a major revision in october with the release of leopard, but they didn't. Now, their are lots of promising rumors that a new alluminum, sub-notebook/new ultra-portable macbook is in the works, and will hopefully be released at the upcoming macworld, in january. So, my question is, will this new sub-notebook replace the existing macbooks, with better features (i.e. slimmer, alluminum, lighter, faster) or will it become a whole new line of sub-notebooks, with their own pros and cons to the current macbook?

There have been many rumours flying around that Steve Job's will be announcing a new 'ultra-portable' notebook at the MacWorld expo in 2008.
I highly doubt that this new notebook would replace the current line as they would have completely different specs and would appeal to a different demographic.
