Why have a telephoto lens front thread on it? beginner confused?
Well, I have a panasonic DMC FZ18 and its pretty basic at the center of EPE, and p & s camera. The good news is that you can (with a lens adapter) use different lenses, filters etc. So my adapter camera lens fits and has 58mm thread. I'm trying to buy a telephoto lens and I am confused because I'm finding the line lenses say things like 67mm 2.0x TELE Telephoto '58mm Thread Front. "Does that mean that it fits my 58mm adapter? Why does 67mm front thread? Why he has a thread in front (for the filters?)? I just want to make sure I buy something that fits. learning Thanks for being patient with me ... I am!
In the example given, the first measurement (2.0 X 58 TELE mm telephoto) means that the lens will fit your adapter. The second measurement (67mm Front Thread) means that if you want to use a filter with the lens attached, you need to buy 67mm filters. The filters are called filters or filters bayonet circular depending on who is speaking. They are round, and the screw to the side that does not fit adapter to 58 mm lens. Just remember the first number is the part that plugs into the adapter and the second number is for any new filters you want to put on. There resign and step up rings that can normalize the size. The disadvantage is the larger the filter, the more expensive it is. The advantage is that you only have to buy one for all lenses. Step up rings are best to avoid vignetting (darkening of the sides of the picture because the projected image is too small for the sensor). Lower rings essentially save money on filters that you want to buy. All that said, if you do not intend on using optical filters and a polarizer (highly recommended) do not worry about the second set of numbers.
