Tamron Zoom Lenses 18 250
Confused on camera lense differences?
I am new to the photography game and just bought a Nikon D40. I want a higher powered zoom lense than the one that came with. To start I do not want multi lenses and was looking at a 18-200 or 18-250. I would like to spend no more than 450.00 for first time out. I am seeing a few different lenses that look pretty much the same and don't know the difference.

So what is the difference? Which one would be best for me when I will be shooting regular family vacation photos and normal day to day pictures.

The first two lenses are the same lens but I'm a little suspicious of the $369 price unless it's a used lens. The last lens is Tamron's "original" super zoom released in 2005 and doesn't offer quite as much "reach" as the 18-250mm version.
For what it's worth, super-zooms are a compromise. They work well as a travel lens and for snap-shots where the convenience of an all-in-one lens is a benefit. They work well so long as you have plenty of light. But with apertures ranging from f3.5 to f6.3, these lenses are a little hard to use if you need to shoot in low-light but can't/shouldn't use a flash such as a child's recital in a dimly lit church. I know it's out of your budget, but I think Nikon's AF-S DX VR 18-200mm f3.5-5.6G is a much better lens and one that offers vibration reduction.
