Canon kit lens 18-55 vs 18-55 IS lens?

I'm about to order a Canon XTi. I was about to remove the kit, but saw that there is a version of the same lens. Is it worth buying the XTi body with IS lens, or should I get the kit as planned? I'm doing the digital SLR camera movement and at this point you just need a general purpose lens. I want a smallish lens light, and I'm not professional, nor have any desire to be. By so the sound is better, but worth it for me, especially taking pictures of my kids, or should I keep my money?

If your budget can afford it, get IS lens. IS allows shutter speeds, which is handy in low light. Obviously, if the subject is moving, is to do nothing to help to leave the movement. Only a faster lens (larger aperture) allow that to happen or increasing your ISO speed (which also introduces more noise). ES is also useful in situations that usually carry a tripod, but because the lens has is that you can take less to leave the tripod at home or in the car.
