Extension tubes for SIGMA APO 70-300mm Macro lens?

can extension tubes be used for Sigma APO 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG MACRO lens? will it produce superior results than using just the lens?
this lens produce magnification of up to 1:2. can i have 1:1 by using the tube

General answer: Yes, extension tubes can be used on ANY lens if the mounts match. The only thing an extension tube does is allowing the lens to focus even closer than it would without them.
No optical degradation will be observed since the extension tubes do not bring any other medium (another glass) in front of the image. It is just air.
drawbacks are that not all of the extension tubes support through the lens metering and/or autofocus. So you might have to run manual.

But, summarizing:

Yes extension tubes can be used with the Sigma 70-300mm
It cannot improve the quality of the lens (results with or without the extension tubes depend on the lens and camera, ET do not change this) But, since you can focus closer, then you can get a higher magnification (that using the lens would only be possible by cropping). So, the end product will seem like a superior result even when technically it is not...

Edit 1: Yes, you can have 1:1 magnification with the tubes. If you check, for example, Kenko extensions tube, they include a guide so you know what magnification you can achieve with each of the tubes independently or by stacking them.
