How step up rings work?

I am not vary familiar with how filters and step up rings work.
I have a lens that has a 58mm filter thread size, and I found a wide angle lens that can be added onto a lens that has a 52mm filter thread size.
So I found a 52-58mm step up ring that I think should work...?
The description says that the male thread is 52mm, and the female thread is 58mm. Is this the correct step up ring for what I want?

You are moving from your camera lens that is 58mm(female thread)(58mm male thread on the adapter)-to-52mm(female thread). That is a step down lens adapter. Therefore your adapter should have a male 58mm thread to screw into your camera lens leaving a 52mm female thread exposed to accept your 52mm male thread wide angle lens.

However, have you thought about vignetting the resulting image exposed with this set-up?
