I want to become a profesional photographer someday..helP?

I love photography and everytime I find something worth taking a picture of, I snap it! When my horses are out running a muck, I am streaming through the house looking for my non existant camera!

I would like to become a equine photographer someday. I had a really nice Canon camera, but it accidentally got dropped on its lense and has ceased to work. What style/brand/model of camera would you suggest? I'm looking into a Olypus e520, but I dont know much about cameras..Also: what would you want/expect out of a photographer you paid to take professional shots of your horses?

I'd expect perfection, or something close to it. If I'm paying someone to take pictures, they'd better be pro, ya know? Don't want to dampen your high hopes, but people want someone who knows about cameras, light, etc. However, you're making a start! You have the passion, you're shopping around, and you're asking for advice.

Make sure you study up and get knowledgeable in cameras. You need to know both the artistic and technical side of photography. Practice a lot and give yourself assignments, so to speak. One week focus on manual exposure. Next week on composition. Next week on white balance, etc etc. Or if you can take classes that's even better.

Olympus is nice. As are Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony, etc. Make sure to invest in nice lenses too. Personally I went with a Nikon because the choice of lenses, flashes, etc, is huge. But go to a store where they have a lot of cameras and play with them. Whatever feels right to you
