Camera 500D - Hands On First experience ... very positive!

Here is a quick, first impressions (hands shooting) of the House 500D. Although we need more scientific tests to determine final image quality and ease of use, I'll try to give a hint at the potential of the camera.

I'm not going to any real detail about the purpose of the kit, which has been well reviewed. Let's agree that $ 100 for a good quality (image stabalizer) lens is a very reasonable value that you have no other choice. There are no obvious reasons, this lens the kit should make or break your choice of this camera through a competitor.

Styling and the rational, the House XSi 500D is one more fact, it's not a bad thing. Some felt that the camera is a bit on the small size of their hands, or a little lacking in weight, but most like the size and weight (I included). Uses the same, the battery tested and accessories from the XSi. I have used some generic batteries that worked well in a XSi, with similar good results, but do not want to group all generic drugs in the "Good to Go" category.

When using the camera, the first thing you notice about the rebels earlier in the LCD wonderful. Yes, the images look much cleaner, even in the original size. Make no mistake, if you compare this camera side-by-side and I think the pictures are all that much better. They just look much better in this sharp LCD.

He looks IQ (Image Quality) were very impressive. I tried using the camera in a variety of situtations (biased to how I would use), and was very successful everywhere. Focusing was typical for a better Rebelde and the images looked good throughout the ISO range, based on reasonable expectations. I thought the automatic white balance is a very good job compared with previous results that had been with the canons in general. They were not perfect, but the areas of tungsten seems to look better than average. However, I would say that Canon has made reasonable progress with the leap to 15 Meg, but probably no reason to trade in your XSi.

Live View has never been one of my major emotions, but Sharp's LCD screen makes it a little more pleasant. If I was shooting macro, I would like more.

But the biggest advantage of the new screen for some will be during the filming of videos. I only did videos in 1080p, and was impressed by the quality. Sound was fine, and I was a little disappointed that Canon does not have an audio input option (ALA 5D mkII or camcorders with shoe intellegent). I'm not sure how practical that the videos, taking note that not using a direct-to hidef player "as AVCHD format AVCHD or Lite.

In addition, 20 frames per second is a bit strange 1080p, but its software does not sustain the support framework, which should give nice 4x6 prints (there is a little more 2MEG per frame). The 720p is recorded in a more standard 30 fps, should also help with moving subjects. You can also shoot a 15meg full image during the recording of their videos. You video was interrupted for about a second (see a still image of that length in the video playback), but the high quality of picture will be recorded in its own file (no need of frame grabbing). BTW, autofocus did not work during this recording, but the noise was picked up by the microphone.

OK, so I liked the camera, but how do I value in comparison with the competition. Well, compared to the XSi, it is better, but maybe not worth the money. The LCD screen is large (which alone get my money) and is a no brainer if you need video or shoot a bunch of macros. But to suffer price drops combo deals and Canon, the XSi should still be strong, based on value.

I've also had some experience with the new Nikon D5000 (but much less). Despite an initial price is about $ 50 at the top of the 500D camera, I thought the Canon was clearly more interesting. I like the way Sony incorporated an articulated LCD, but I hate the D5000. I was constantly setting the camera down with the rear LCD to be the first thing to touch. You can never break, but surely tomorrow cosmetics. The D5000 does not have the motor built into the body, so there is some limitation to the lens. However, the major drawback was that the D5000's built-in flash is not compatible with wireless flash system (with its new line, we will move to the D90). The D5000 really needs to be aligned against the XSi, not the 500D camera.

The 14MP Sony Alpha 350 can be a good value-oriented competitor (when Sony offers packages), but the IQ of the Canon CMOS sensor is probably better in most moderate to low light conditions. I think he'll do something soon to replace this model.

Therefore, competition is paramount Canon XSi should be, the D5000 (especially low price of about $ 100 more), and those with a little more money, the Nikon D90.

The House 500D continues the tradition of Canon rebel with a lot of "appeal on the sidewalk" paired with a solid performance.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. Dirty CMOS sensor?

I just got the camera at Christmas. I was taking a picture, then two seconds later There was a dark spot when I look through the camera. I know that the CMOS sensor is dirty, but I'm not exactly sure how to clean it. I really do not want to do anything bad .... Please Help!

Dirt can only be in your mirror. Are you in the pictures after taking pictures or just when you look through the eyepiece. If this is the case, then do not worry much, since it doesn't affect the actual image. It may also be in your lens. If you do not know how to clean a lens then DONT touch it, or even to go to a real camera store (not Walmart) and have them show you how to clean a lens correctly. I have not had many cases with dirt the sensor, but the last time it happened to me came as a red spot. If you suspect your reality on the sensor, DONT TOUCH IT! Go to a camera shop that has insurance on themselves to repair the camera if you mess up cleaning. Certainly you can clean yourself, but if the sensor is damaged even slightly, you can buy a new camera.
