Can I use a reversing ring on the Nikkor 18-55G VR?

I'd like to try it for macro work as opposed to buying a dedicated macro lens. Or is a fixed lens more appropriate, like the 50mm 1.8?
Yes,I know i'll have to manual focus- but I guess I'd be stuck at f22 or seomething, right?

In the days before AutoFocus lenses came along, using a reverse ring, was an excellent way for 1:1 macro

But now with auto focus lenses, you will be able to use a reverse ring only in the manual mode for focus.

But what about aperture?????
