Nightshot and supernightshot are Sony trademarks for a video camera that does NOT have an infrared filter. IR filters block IR and are normal on CCD based cameras to prevent false coloring of images. Nightshot camcorders are not FLIR, they are nowhere sensitive enough to measure emited IR of ordinary objects, let alone ghosts. They work in conjunction with an IR illuminator, which works exactly the same as ordinary lights, except in the IR band. the camera picksup the reflected IR and does not see through anything.

The IR illuminator is useful for taking clandestine monochrome pictures in total darkenss without arousing suspicion of the subject.
