Is Nikon and Canon so much better than Olympus?

I own an E-500 and really enjoy shooting with it. I have never used either Canon or Nikon and am curious if I am missing out. Please let me know any comparisons you may have between the 3 different brands. I am interested in your opinions especially regarding the 4/3 sensor.

I'm a nikon user I love my nikons and have since the 70s. I still have the first one I bought and it still works as well as when I opened the box.

That said the micro 4/3 system has gotten some good reviews. It gives the advantage of a much smaller camera that some people want. Its sensor is much bigger than the sensor on a point and shoot which is good but also a good bit smaller than on an APSc sensor camera. conentional wisdom is that a larger sensor will give you the ability for better output. Right now there are a limited number of lenses and accessories both OEM and third party but it seems they are being added pretty quickly. some 4/3 cameras made are SLR as I understand it but the Micro 4/3 system is not an SLR, it has no mirror its an EVF camera. That in itself is not a bad thing or a good thing its just is. A rangefinder is not an SLR either but its a good camera. One issue to be aware of though with EVF cameras is that they cannot use the rapid phase change autofocus that is on DSLR. They have to use a contrast based AF. That is traditionally slower though the folks who make micro 4/3 systems say they have boosted the processor power to help compensate for this. You will have to ask someone who uses them for a definative answer on that
