List of Lenses that are work with Nikon D40?
I have a Nikon D40, I was looking for telephoto lenses. I saw the 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens. But I was wanting another one that has more zoom then that but has AF and Manual that fits to a Nikon D40.
So if I wanted a micro lenses also, say the AF-S Micro-NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED. it should work?
Almost all Nikon F-mount lenses will mount and work on a Nikon D40. There are over 400 or so Nikon F-mount lenses.
However, auto-focus is only possible with the lenses that have a motor in them. These include the AF-S and the AF-I CPU lenses. You probably knew this already.
If you are looking for a lens that has more reach than the 55-200mm AF-S, and you want auto-focus capability, then your best bet is the Nikon 70-300mm AF-S. The good thing about this lens is that it, also has Vibration Reduction, not to mention the stellar optics.

As far as manual focus goes, you will be able to manually focus all of Nikon F-mount lenses, except some specialized lenses. The nice thing about AF-S lenses is that they have a nice switch to flip to manual focus mode.
