Is this a good fish-eye lens?
well i got my new camcorder and i was wondering if this is a good fish eye lens to start off with so ya its a Zeikos 25mm WIDE ANGLE LENS 0.45X its for my Sony DCR-HC21 so please tell me!
It's not a fisheye and looking at the Zeikos kit I think the descriptions are a little confusing. The 25mm mentioned is the filter ring diameter (though they are providing adapters for different filter ring sizes.
The 0.45X is it's magnification, so that's reasonably wide and added to existing wide end of the HC21's zoom it'll certainly produce distortion but probably some purple fringing and other color separation too.
Next up as this is for a camcorder (wrong section really), if you've not used a wide angle lens before you may be surprised at the results when used on subjects close up (on distant objects you don't notice) but perspective is altered. Even though you won't get the distortion you would from a fisheye, it can look quite unnatural.
