Canon 400D Kit lens?
I'm totally new at photography and dSLR cameras and I just purchased the 400D today. I also bought the 18-55mm lens since I read that it would be good for starters and then I could move up on lenses if I saved.
So, should I of saved the money to get a better lens? And does anyone of any sample images that this lens produces?

Its not a bad lens, but its not a fantastic lens either. From all the reviews that I've read that don't just say "don't get this lens, its just a paper weight" I does a fair job in the halfway spots.
Without going into too much it works best zoomed in (or out if you prefer) about half way. It gives the least discrepancies when your looking for the really fine detail. It also shoots the best with an aperture of around f-8 to f-16, but if you don't know what that is don't lose any sleep over it.
If your just doing snapshots its a darn good lens for the amount that you paid for it.
Sorry that most of these shots are of my son. But can you blame me?
One of the biggest reasons why you should have bought this lens is that with the smaller sensor (digital film) you will need a wider angle to get the same shot as opposed to a film camera. Very complicated but having a lens that will go as wide as 18mm is necessary for any kind of a group shot or anything close up (without going with a macro lens of course).
