Hood Protect Cap
2006 taurus lost power?
I have a 2006 ford taurus. A couple of weeks ago it broke down and was found out to be the onboard prosseor in the car wasn't talking to the fuel pump. That was replaced and all was good. Tonight we were at a light and when it turned green started to go but then it lost power. We pulled over and lifted the hood and found that when they the ford dealer was looking at it they didn't put the power steering cap back on properly and it was spewing fluid out from the cap. We put the cap back on properly and waited a few moments and the car started right back up. My husband thinks that is why it lost power because the cap wasn't on properly and it was loosing pressure, so to protect itself the car shut down. I don't know what to think.. Anyone else have a thought.
we have replaced the fuel pump twice in the last 4 months.
Your husband is wrong. More than likely the fluid came out as the engine stalled and you were still turning the wheel.
James is partially correct. a fuel pump that fails twice is a sign that the diagnosis is only partially correct or that you are purchasing some really terrible fuel or adding far too much fuel system cleaner or something else that might cause the pump damage.
Explain your problem to whomever replaced the PCM and fuel pump, then ask them to recheck their work.
