hdmi cannot find in my TV set?

I have a sony rear projection TV ... is high-definition ... when I go to configure .. i cannot find hdmi .. I bought the TV in 2004 ... 46-inch widescreen ... it seems I have a hdmi plug-in but the call dvi-inch HDTV ... is the same as hdmi?. My Theater house has an HDMI output ... When I plug in the TV .. picturesque is my half of the screen and its .. black and white .... please help
