Wide Angle Lens - Like its name, wide angle lens can take in a wider field than usual. This is a useful lens when taking landscapes and views. If youâ€™re shooting a picture that everything in it is important, you should use a wide angle lens.

Telephoto Lens â€“ is a long focal length lens. Itâ€™s great in making objects in the far horizon look close and magnified. So if you are in a sporting event, a concert, or any scenario where your subject is very far from you, a telephoto lens will work wonders. The telephoto can also show much more details than the human eye, reduce depth of field and solely focus on the subject, creating clear and vivid images. There are also super telephoto lenses available, but with 300mm focal length they could be pretty heavy because of all the glass work. Youâ€™ll probably need a tripod, or somebodyâ€™s head.

Macro Lens â€“ Should be used when you need to take a photo of a ladybug on a flower. The macro lens will help you take extreme close ups. The quality is very high and a photo can be taken from a fair distance that will not scare away shy subjects.

Fisheye â€“ These lenses are always fun and exciting to use. They use a view of 180 degrees and create a distortion of reality. When shooting a landscape, it will have a distinct curve to it. When shooting a person, it will seem as if youâ€™re looking through a peephole.

What is a Teleconverter? It is basically a secondary lens which can be mounted between your camera and the lens. What does it do? It increases your lensâ€™s focal length. So why buy a bigger lens and not a converter? Because of quality. A teleconverter will make focusing harder and the optical quality of your lens will also be lower. Wide angle lens (1:2.8) is this fisheye? or would i be able to shoot normal photos?

want to know if by wide angle lens it is a fisheye because i have heard that thats what it means...
by normal i mean standard/stock photos as with any standard/stock lens

1:2.8 merely tells you what the widest opening of the aperture is. What you tell you the angle of the lens is the focal length. In a 35mm format, a 35mm is considered wide as is a 28mm, 24, 21, 18, 16, 14. The lower the focal length, the wider the view of the lens.

Digital cameras with the smaller sensors, like the standard consumer lines of Canon, Nikon, Sony, et al, have a different scale. On most, something like a 16mm lens would be about the same as 1 35mm lens on a 35mm film format camera. Many have ranges from 18mm to 55mm or so, so the 18mm would be the widest angle and it would equate to about a 28-30mm lens. Figure a multiple of 1.6 on a digital SLR lens (consumer models), so multiplying 1.6x18 = 29mm on a 35mm film format.

General consumers can do well with the 18-50 or 55mm lens, about 90% of their photography will be done on those ranges.

When you start going to really wide angles like a fish eye, you get all sorts of distortion and though they are fun to play with, there is a big expense to the lens, so if you are just taking pictures, I would not drop the cash.
