Most of us are not video professionals and have no intention of producing a feature film with our camcorder, but lens filters do have a purpose, even for those of us who use a video camera for recreational purposes only.
There are many types of filters for video camera lenses, each with their own purposes, but some of the most common may be of interest to the consumer medium as a way to ensure best films and the protection of your investment.
Protector filters
A transparent filter can be used on camcorder lens to protect it from dirt, fingerprints and other debris that could scratch or damage the lens. Replacing a damaged filter is much less expensive than replacement of the lens. There are a variety color correction and color compensation filters can be used to create different effects. For example, to make a red sunset over an ocean or more blue. As these tend to be used for more creative or artistic purposes of these lens filters are used less frequently by the average consumer.
Diffusion filters
Both the diffusion and fog filters in a camcorder can soften images. filter media, in particular, are used when filming to close-ups of people to flatter their faces, smoothing the lines or blemishes on the skin.

None (as you can find one, can not work as expected) ... Polarizing filters are designed for lenses no greater than 24 mm on a 35mm camera. Two reasons. 1) when using a polarizing filter to darken the sky, the haze is greater than 90 degrees to the suns path ... none when parallel to its trajectory. 2) reflections usually captured by super wide angle lenses are used in the composition of images.
