I am thinking of buying it, it retails at £723 plus £5 delivery from Amazon.co.uk, is it worth the buy?
I feel I need to upgrade from my current lousy camera.

Yes, Canon EOS 550D is a very good camera. Lightweight, easy to use. Pictures out of it are good quality.
