The main objectives of using polarizing filters are to remove "soft" reflection, white-outs and reduce the brightness of the non-metallic surfaces, and in many cases enhance the color balance. For example, the white sky could become rich blue color in a picture where we have used the filter. This, along with great composition can completely change the impression of the spectators. In short, a polarizing filter is definitely a "must have" accessory for all photographers professionals and can be used for both black and white photography and color.

The types of polarizing filters

While armed with such good intentions, the purchase of a polarizing filter can be confusing. There are lots of different types, and you can find up to 7, including: C - PL, MC - CPL, C - PL, Coat Waterproof C-PL DHG C - PL. How do they differ?

The first filter, called PL is used to MF (manual focus) cameras only, and uses a linear polarization. The second type is for all MF / AF (manual / autofocus) cameras and uses a circular polarization. If you use filters polarization with an auto focus camera, make sure the filter is ะก. PL / C-PL logos on it, or is otherwise clearly a polarizing filter circular. We will discuss below why it is so important. Some larger diameter filters are linear only. Filters with MC - CPL and MC - makes use of coated PL at various levels, effectively minimize glare and reflections and more light. Waterproof Coat C-PL or PL-CMP, as is the name, has a material water-resistant outer surface. The last, C-PL DHG-filter is specifically designed to protect the lens digital cameras.

Polarized light by a linear filter (PL) can cause measurement errors of openness and responsiveness in all digital cameras autofocus. With polarized glass was equal to 90 degrees, the digital camera is likely to stop processing the image at all. To avoid this, use of circular polarizing filters (C-PL) which does not cause these effects. There are no other differences between these two major types of filters, so you can select the most suitable for its purpose.

How use polarizing filters?

With a manual focus camera is simple: 1) install the filter on the lens, 2) begin to turn the filter checking the result through the viewfinder. The most notable effect is in the dark parts of the composition. Use the ^ sign in the filter for more precise adjustments. Sometimes you may find that the effect is minimal due to the location of the light source (usually the sun). If the light incident on a surface under 90 degrees on the side closest the axis of the lens, the polarization effect can not occur. At the same time, if the sun is about 90 degrees on the side closest to the lens axis, the effect is maximum. In order to reduce glare on surfaces such as water, the objective must be around 30-40 degrees in the level of the surface.

You can also use polarizing filters with other types of filters. In doing so, the polarizing filter should be the last filter on the lens. This rule is not hard to remember, because in most cases have no exterior threaded polarizing filters. Trying Comment The combination of color and polarization filters can effect unusual increase or reduce some of the colors in the photo.
A final point to consider: since the polarization filters using iodine, which can not withstand the heat and ultraviolet light. Therefore, applying the filter only when you need it and store it in one case, the rest of the time. Simple! Used correctly, a polarizing filter will last about 5-6 years before is to be replaced.

looking for filters for my DSLR lenses?

I want to get a set of filters for my two lenses that I use in my Canon 7D, since I have a gift card $ 40 at Amazon I have a - Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle 17-50mm f/2.8 - Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS I think I need a 72mm filter for my 67mm Canon lens and one for my Tamron. Am I correct? I was thinking of getting an ND filter for my Canon lens because I tend to use the video mood a lot and sometimes its too bright for me to do a video in my position. good are these elections and are they gonna work on my glasses? http://www.amazon.ca/Piece-Neutral-Density-Filter-Cameras/dp/B003U62M2A/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279430369&sr=1-25 and http://www.amazon.ca/Zeikos-ZE-FLK67-Multi-Coated-Filter-UV-CPL-FLD/dp/B001KN766W/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I22RGSL7JLGAJH&colid=1G6VOC8RUYVRB

The filter diameter lenses are actually printed on the lenses themselves, but I think they are correct. ND filters are usually used to balance exposure when you need to expose a portion of the frame without exposing the rest. You can use ND filters to the entire frame, but generally an aperture setting, shutter and ISO to address these problems first. I used the video features of my 5DmkII and 7D limited only to a point, but I think if the camera is Scheduled on display (P) and Auto ISO mode is enabled there are not many scenes that have proven to be too bright for the camera to operate. What I heard from the professional features however is that some are using the ISO to control exposure in video mode. In other words, shutter speed is usually dictated by the frame rate and / or "look" they want, opening controls depth of field, and the ISO is used to dictate how bright the scene seems to be. I am not a director of photography, no camera, so I can not speak to whether or not it is correct, but it seems that the pros Be happy.
