A High Performance Circularly-Polarized Active RFID Antenna

Can I use a linear polarizer with a Canon SX10?

I currently have a Canon SX10 and am going to buy lensmate's 58mm adapter. They also sell a hoya double coated linear polarizer, however, everything I read said that for this type of camera, I need a circular polarizer. Is this true or will a linear polarizer work just as well?

As far as providing the effects of polarization - it will work. You will get deeper blues in the sky and cut reflections on glass or smooth surfaces. But, the filter may confuse camera's auto focus and/or auto exposure metering, so you'll have to shoot on all manual, which may work fine for SLR, if you're used to it, but on p&s camera, even as advanced as SX10, it will be quite hard for you to focus manually! So I'd go for a circular one.
