Why do I photography so badly?

Hey there, a lot of people tell me I'm a handsome fellow and as much as I'd like to believe them, the photographic evidence just isn't there! However, a handful of decent shots lead me to believe that a good shot can happen.

I think my problem is whenever the camera rears its lens, my face tends to tense up in anticipation of the Bad Photo. Any tips for staying relaxed?

my friend is a photographer so she's given me some tips on how to look good in photos
1) don't look at the lens of the camera look at the top of the photographers head
2) shoulders back and stretch your neck up (to the point where its just a little uncomfortable) and tilt your chin down slightly
3) if you have trouble relaxing and want to look less stiff think of the funniest movie quote you know and say it in your head to get a relaxed natural smile
